INTERVIEW

Hey Øyvind. Thanks for the mix! Please tell where you from and were you born there?

Ø: I'm from Oslo, Norway, and yes I was born here. 1979 was the year.

Where or how did this mix happen?

Ø: I had just bought myself a new mixer, and I had been out drinking with some friends on a
hot summer night. Couldn't sleep when I got home, so i record myself playing some music
.

You are a resident DJ at club Blå in Oslo I believe. What nights do you play there and what's
the club like?

Ø: Ive been DJing at Blå since last summer. Me and a friend have been putting on a night
called Left Foot Forward. Its not a residency, but more like a regular thing. I am also getting
involved in a monthly night called Luntech, wich is Luna Flicks label night. And on summers I
DJ quit a bit at the outdoor area at weekdays. There is a nice river running by, people are in a
good mood since its summer, good music, alcohol, great. I think Blå is one of the best clubs
in Oslo, next to The Villa. I get to work with both clubs, so I am really happy that I have gotten
that chance. I am also resident for Space Is The Place witch is a night where we play whatever
we feel like, and a house and techno night called Thisisit!. But there are no regular venues for
these nights.

Norwegian space disco has really taken off in the last few years. Have you been influenced
by the sounds coming from the likes of Prins Thomas, Terje, Lindstrom and so on?

Ø: Ive been playing their records since Lindstøm did the Slow Supreme stuff, and Prins
Thomas did the Tamburin label. But I would not try to copy them if would go recording in the
studio. Thomas has been an inspiration as a DJ for a long time though.  Its very different here
In Oslo then you may think, L&PT where not big until they sold a shit loads of records outside
of Norway. Most Norwegians have a problem saying they admire another Norwegian, unless
some magazine in UK or somewhere say its cool. Weird huh?

You are also involved with label Luna Flicks. Which artists are on the roster and what's
your job like?

Ø: Yeah, I just started working for them, they needed someone to help manage the label, so I
stepped in. I have loved the label and what they want with it since they "DJ Strangefruit &
Kango" started it, its very open minded, so its an honour being involved. We have released and
are going to release music by Mungolian Jetset, Fjordfunk, Syntax Erik, Brennan Green,
Lindstrøm, Kohib, Hex Pistols, Altz, Hardway Bros plus more to come.

What new Luna Flicks bits should we keep an eye out for?

Ø: Well Luna Flicks 005 is out in the end of November. Its a European release of the
Mungolian Jetset remix of Altz, with on hell of a tripped out new version on the b-side. It sounds
amazing on a big soundsystem that's for sure. Then there is a Hardway Bros record coming
out after that which I really like.

What producers / musicians inspire you?

Ø: There are so many, not going to drop names. People who are open minded and
progressive inspires me musically and in life generally.

Can you share your top 5 tunes today?

Ø: Today I've enjoyed:
Parliament – let`s play house "Casablanca"
Bjørn Torske – dubet "Smalltown Supersound"
Mungolian Jetset – modreh, epics part 2 "Luna Flicks"
Round two – new day (dub mix) "Main Street"
Frank Sinatra – it was a very good year "Reprise"

What music did you grow up listening to?

Ø: My father used to listen to loads of black music, soul, funk, disco and some rock n roll so I
got that input from an early age, I got into hip hop and electro when I was about 7 or 8, cause
my older brother and his crew used to break dance. I remember hearing M.A.R.R.S. – "pump
up the volume" on MTV when it came out. That was my first meeting with house music.

When did the dance music bug bite you? Did Norway go through the same rave scene as
the States and the UK?

Ø: I started going to warehouse party`s and house clubs in 1995 or 1996 I think, my brother
was mates with most of the people doing security in clubs at that time, so even though I was
way to young they would let me in to the clubs. It was pretty wild at those times, but nothing like
the UK or the states.

Hit us with one thing you think will make the world a better place?

Ø: Hopefully Barack Obama for president in the States. Less greedy people.

Do you want to give a shout out to anyone or add anything?

Ø: Shout out to my friends & family for putting up with me. DJ Strangefruit, Kango, Twomass,
DiskJokke & Vinny Villbass, Eric Small, G-ha & Olanskii from sunkissed, the rest of the
Norwegians, Simone from Dubai, people like Dave Martin (technique), Matt Tolfrey from

support Luna Flicks. Oh, almost forgot, all the women I will meet in the future;)
