PHORESKI INTERVIEW
Hey Neil, thanks for the amazing mix! Please tell us where you are from?
I live in Manchester - England, but I'm from a place called Sunderland originally.
How would you describe the style of the mix … cosmic rock?
I'm not one for categorizing a sound. I'm happy for people to call it what they want, but for
me it's simply good music.
You've got an incredibly unique style, with some totally bonkers records! Where do you find
inspiration from and where do you find these records?!!
All over really, if I like something I'll play it. As for purchasing sounds they can come from
anywhere, there's a wealth of unheard music out there, you've just got to look for it!
What aliases have released you own productions under and do you associate a different style
with each?
I've released under Phoreski & Richard Gateaux to date. The Richard Gateaux productions
are very different to the Phoreski work.
The Phoreski productions have a more crossover sounds, whereas the Gateaux releases
have a darker more soundtrack style.
Do you also run the labels Bare Fist and Fat Fuk?
Fat Fuk is a platform to put my own work out on, so yes. But I wouldn't say it is a label in a
commercial sense as there are no other artist connected with it.
Bare Fist is purely for edits ...
What releases have you got lined up that we should look out for?
There's the "On The Rocks" EP out now on Top Shelf Records, which is a Phoreski
production, and there's a Richard Gateaux EP out on on Endless Flight in October this year.
Also, a Phoreski 12 out in December on Rare Wiri Records, plus a few other releases in the
pipeline and a new Fat Fuk - will keep you posted!
What’s your favourite record you released so far?
Richard Gateaux - Dune
What would you describe as your musical influences?
Anything and everything, if you like something it's for a reason and worth taking on board.
Are there any contemporary producers that you look to for inspiration?
There's some great music coming out all the time, and it's hard not be influenced in some
way by something you like,
but I wouldn't single out anyone in particular ...
I love that track "Barelow" you released on Topshelf. Is that an edit and do you mind sharing
what of, is it some obscure library record or something?
It's an edit from an old library LP, I'll try and find it and let you know.
What's you favourite spot to DJ?
Don't have one if I'm being honest.
What's the best party you've played at?
The Top Shelf party in LA was a blast!!
